The tokenized real-world asset market has crossed $20 billion.

The legal framework ensuring that token holders can actually enforce their property rights has not kept pace.

This is the gap our research addresses.

IRAIET recently published peer-reviewed research on exactly this question: «Mechanisms for Ensuring Property Rights During the Tokenization of Real-World Assets» — open access on Zenodo, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21072803.

The central finding: the effectiveness of tokenization depends not on the capabilities of the technology platform, but on the ability of legal systems to maintain a stable, legally enforceable connection between a token and the real-world asset it represents.

Blockchain technology and asset tokenization are moving beyond proof-of-concept use cases to production-scale systems, requiring businesses and regulators to confront questions that are no longer theoretical.

Our research identified four key risk areas for tokenized asset holders: uncertain legal status of tokens across jurisdictions, fragmented regulatory frameworks, fundamental difficulty in substantiating claims to underlying assets when disputes arise, and limited harmonization of dispute resolution approaches.

These are the research questions that IRAIET exists to address — through independent, interdisciplinary analysis that can inform regulatory development before disputes force ad hoc resolution.

The full research is open access. We welcome responses, citations, and collaboration from researchers working on adjacent questions.
